Having a canine buddy lavishing us with unconditional love can be a real stress reliever while we’re being challenged in uncomfortable ways. So please don’t forget adopting a rescue is a long term commitment. Life is likely to get back to something closer to normal long before your new best canine friend ages much. Always remember to love them their whole lives!

Milo (5723)

Age:  5 years
D.O.B.:  04/03/2019
Color:  Black & Tan
Coat:  Smooth
Sex: Male/Neutered
Size:  Tweenie – 16 lbs.

Milo came to SCDR in early April from a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. Sadly, his former owner received orders to ship out overseas and was unable to find anyone to take Milo. A neighbor offered to help by getting in touch with SCDR, and we were delighted to take Milo into our rescue program.

Milo is the perfect doxie for an active retired lady or gentleman who desires the love and companionship of an affectionate and devoted dog. Milo is active and in good health. His fur is soft like velvet and he loves his belly rubbed and ears massaged. He is not into toys, but does enjoy a nice relaxing chew on his large Nylabone.

Milo loves to go for walks, stopping frequently to smell interesting scents and to leave his personal calling card. He needs a home where he will be the center of his person’s universe. Visiting grandchildren over 8 years old are safe with Milo (with parental supervision of course). He gets along with other small dogs. However, we have no idea if he is safe with cats.

Milo is a mellow senior who is very well socially adjusted. He is crate trained, but prefers to sleep on the big bed. He needs a home with a secure yard and someone home most of the time. A mild-mannered female dachshund companion would be a plus.

Milo is a treasure. If you are interested in Milo, please complete our online adoption application and contact Dena at (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org.

The tax deductible donation for Milo is $500.00

Dante (5724)

Age: 4 years
D.O.B.:  02/11/2020
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex: Neutered Male
Size: Tweenie – 13 lbs

Dante is almost too good to be true. This magnificent boy will stop traffic. He is drop-dead gorgeous.

Dante had what seemed to be the perfect home. He had a mom and dad that doted on him, and gave him a wonderful life. But they also had a toddler. And for the past year, they ran interference to keep both child and dachshund safe. But as the child got older and more mobile, it became difficult to control the situation. Sadly, Dante had enough of being pursued by the baby, and one day he committed the “Cardinal Sin” of dachshunds. He nipped the child for bothering him. In all fairness, the parents know it was not Dante’ fault, but they are obligated to protect not only their child from Dante, but also protect Dante from the child as well.

Dante is an inquisitive and sweet boy. Affectionate and very social, Dante has no issues with adult people. He loves belly-rubs and play fetch at every opportunity. He even has a machine that throws the ball for him and he puts the balls back in the machine over and over again. Dante would be a good family dog with teenage children. He does not like cats, no way, no how. He is “awesome” on a leash and is very good in the car. His house training is also good, but occasionally needs to be reminded to go outside to do his business. This is typical dachshund behavior.

Dante is the consummate lap-dog and enjoys napping in your lap while you work on the computer or watch television. He enjoys snooping in the back yard and sunning himself. He enjoys squeaky toys and hard chew bones (Nylabones). Dante is so well-behaved, he can even go to work with you if the boss allows.

Dante is crate trained, and runs straight into his bedtime crate, covers up with comforter and sleeps through the night without a fuss. Dante would be happiest in a home where he is the only male dog and he would love to have a companion of the female persuasion for fun and playtime. He also comes when called by name. He would be very good in any experienced home, condo or RV, where he is not left home alone for hours and hours. He doesn’t bark excessively or without a reason to do so, but could become bored without companionship.

Dante is very healthy with bright white teeth and all his vaccines are right up-to-date. We have made sure he is microchipped as well.

If you can provide a good home for Dante, please contact Dena at 562-694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. An adoption application and home check are required.

The tax deductible donation for Dante is $600.00

Ellsworth (5726)

Age:  9 years
Color:  Black & Tan
Coat:  Smooth
Sex:  Male/Neutered

Ellsworth originally came to SCDR in December of 2021, and he was subsequently adopted by a widower to be his companion after his wife passed away in January 2022. Recently, Ellsworth came back to SCDR as this gentleman also passed away and the family didn’t have a place for Ellsworth that didn’t have little kids.

Ellsworth is a Dachshund /Lab mix. He has the short legs and fur of a dachshund, but a Lab body. He is the perfect size for apartment or condo people who want a Lab, but need a smaller dog.

Unfortunately, Ellsworth is not good with babies or toddlers, but we will consider families with children over 9 years old. He does not like cats. He does relate well to other dachshunds and is a mild mannered guest in his multiple-dachshund foster home. He is a very good eater – a trait much appreciated by rescue people.

Ellsworth is house trained; crate trained, and walks well on a leash. He is a good passenger in the car as well. He enjoys his daily walks, stopping often to smell the flowers and messages from other dogs along his route.

Ellsworth is at the stage of his life where he enjoys afternoon naps in the patch of sun on the living room floor and likes to cuddle on the couch while his person reads or watches TV. He is quiet and a little shy at first, an excellent candidate to take to work with you if the boss allows.

Ellsworth is recently vaccinated, previously microchipped, and ready for a new loving home.

If you are interested in giving Ellsworth a chance to be a member of your family, please complete our online adoption application and contact Dena at (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org.

The tax deductible donation for Ellsworth is $300.00

Kramer (5718)

Age:  7.5 years
D.O.B.:  08/21/2016
Color:  Red
Coat:  Smooth
Sex:  Male/Neutered
Size:  Standard – 18.5 lbs.

When Kramer’s owner passed away, he went to live with a family member. Unfortunately, Kramer was not a good fit for their home and lifestyle, so Kramer came to SCDR to find a proper new home. The first thing we noticed were Kramer’s “wonky ears”. They are lovely, long dachshund ears, but they are set in such a way that they fold sideways instead of forward. It gives him a very unique and handsome look.

Kramer is affectionate, but only after he gets to know you. His social skills need a little work. He is very friendly with other dachshunds. He has trust issues possibly due to losing his original owner and then coming to SCDR. To his credit, he is very devoted to his chosen human and will ask for hugs and belly rubs.

Kramer is crate trained and his house training is reliable if he has access to a dog door to a very secure yard. He prefers to sleep in his crate in the master bedroom. He loves a “hidey hole”, so we try not to let him get under the big bed, as it is difficult to get him to come out again, unless there is a meal in the offing.

Kramer has some catching up to do socially with humans, and adopters will have to be patient with him for a while. Kramer needs a very secure yard, and must be on leash at all times when not at home. Opening the door to the street must be done with caution as well. This boy runs FAST!!

To his credit, Kramer is a good eater (a trait much appreciated by rescue people), he gets along famously with the other dachshunds in his foster home, and he likes to play with squeaky toys.

Ideal applicants will need the following qualifications:

  • Someone very dachshund experienced who works from home or is retired.

  • A very secure INDOOR place for Kramer to be when no one is at home.

  • Applicants must be between 30 and 78 years of age.

  • No infants, toddlers or pre-schoolers, please. We will consider families with teenage children.

  • Optional: Another small dog for play and companionship.

Kramer walks well on a leash, and likes to ride in the car if he has a lap to sit in. He would love to sleep in the big bed with his people, but all in good time. For now his crate is where he happily sleeps at night.

Kramer’s vaccines are up-to-date. He’s neutered and microchipped. His dental has been scheduled. If you are interested in Kramer, please contact Dena at (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. An adoption application and home check are required.

The tax deductible donation for Kramer is $500.00

Dodger (5713)

Age:  8 years
D.O.B.:  02/25/2016
Color:  Chocolate Piebald
Coat:  Longhair
Sex:  Male/Neutered
Size:  Tweenie – 13 lbs.

On Leap Day, February 29th, we received an email from the Pasadena Human Society asking us if we’d be willing to “rescue” Dodger, an 8-year-old, chocolate piebald, tweenie, dachshund. He had been picked up as a victim of a hit-and-run driver after a Good Samaritan called it in. He was treated for mild injuries. When his “stray hold” was up, the shelter liaison got in touch with SCDR. A few phone calls later, Dodger arrived at his foster home.

Dodger was gentle, sweet and affectionate from the minute he arrived at his foster home. He is as fabulous as they come and will make any new family both happy and proud to have this boy. He is good with older children, not so good with little kids, babies or toddlers. He is perfect for folks who work from home or are retired. He would enjoy a quiet lifestyle. If you must leave him at home, he will wait patiently for you to return. He will greet you at the door with a happy face and wagging tail. He is a good eater (always much appreciated by rescue folks), and not a barker.

According to our observations, Dodger is a little at first shy, but warms up quickly and is very affectionate. He is house trained and knows how to use the dog door. He walks on a leash very well. Dodger is playful. He sleeps peacefully on dog bed at night, curling up on his favorite blanket until morning.

Dodger is neutered, vaccinated and had a recent dental. We also had a large benign growth removed from his left hip. He is now microchipped. All he needs is a family to love him for the rest of his life. Do you have an empty nest that needs a very special boy? Then Dodger is up to the task.

If you can provide Dodger with a loving home, please contact Dena at 562-694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. A home check and an adoption application are required.

The tax deductible donation for Dodger is $500.00

Franky (5719)

Age:  13 years
D.O.B.:  9/21/2011
Color:  Red
Coat:  Smooth
Sex:  Male/Neutered
Size: Tweenie – 14 lbs.

Baby (5721)

Age:  13 years
D.O.B.: 4/01/2012
Color:  Black
Coat:  Smooth
Sex:  Female/Spayed
Size:  Tweenie– 13 lbs.

~ franky & baby are a bonded pair & cannot be separated ~

Franky and Baby both came to SCDR in 2013 separately, but the same family adopted both of them a few months apart. They have been together ever since. Sadly, cancer claimed the wife and the husband was unable to continue to care for Franky and Baby any longer. We took them back into rescue (as promised in our adoption contract).

Franky and Baby arrived at their foster home a bit over-weight. A measured diet and exercise program is helping them lose the extra pounds. Not special food, just portion control of the food they love together with daily walks.

How cute are these two? All this cuteness is ready for a forever home!

Baby is a little shy, but she is gentle, sweet and affectionate once she gets to know you. Franky is outgoing with an exuberance for life. They are as fabulous as they come and will make any new family both happy and proud to have this pair. They are good with children over 8 years old, not so much with babies and toddlers. They are perfect for folks who work from home or who are retired. They would enjoy a quiet lifestyle. If you must leave them at home, they keep each other company while they wait for you to return. They love their crate and readily go in if you must leave them home alone for just a few hours. They will greet you with happy faces and wagging tails.

According to our observations, Franky is the more outgoing sibling. Baby follows wherever Franky goes most of the time. They are house trained and know how to use the dog door. They walk together on a leash very well. As long as Franky stays close to Baby, all is good. Both are playful with each other. They sleep peacefully in their large crate at night, curling up side by side under their blanket until morning.

Franky and Baby are fully vaccinated, had complete dentals, and are microchipped. All they need is a family to love them for the rest of their lives. Do you have an empty lap that needs warming? Does your face need washing with doggie kisses? Then Franky and Baby are for you.

If you can provide these two a loving home together, please contact Dena at 562-694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. A home check and an adoption application are required.

Honey (5702)

Ages: 13 months
D.O.B.:  1/11/2023
Color: Red
Coat: Smooth
Sex:  Female/Spayed
Size:  Tweenie – 15 lbs.

Honey was surrendered to rescue, because her former owner underestimated the amount of time, effort, and training a puppy requires. We were delighted to take Honey into rescue and correct the problems as quickly as possible.

Honey is a dachshund/Minpin blend. She is a beautiful girl. Honey is also very loving and affectionate. She gets along well with other dogs in her foster home, but much prefers to be an “only dog” or to have one mild-mannered male companion. Her most favorite thing is getting belly rubs from her people. Of course, Honey gets to sleep in the big bed, as she needs extra cuddling.

Honey loves going for walks and rides in the car, so if you enjoy traveling in your R.V., Honey is ready to ride “shotgun”. Honey is house trained, but needs someone to periodically remind her to go outside to potty. She needs a home all on one level with a secure yard and a dog door. She cannot be an apartment/condo dog. She will alert you to every passerby. Apartments and condos have too much foot-traffic to make this practical. Do you have a two-story home? No problem. Honey is slightly taller than a dachshund and stairs do not present a danger.

Honey is safe with gentle children over 8 years old, but we don’t know if she would be good with cats.

We are no longer accepting applications for Honey. Please look at our other dogs available for adoption.
